Srdjan Ivanovic, the composer, drummer, keyboardist, leader of his band, BLAZIN 'QUARTET, was born in Sarajevo in 1983. He moved many times before stopping in the Netherlands where he studied at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam and from Utrecht. He has been leading the various Line Up of the Blazin ’Quartet since 2008 and has been awarded several prizes: Dutch Jazz Competition, North Sea Jazz Festival, Holland Casino Jazz & World Award. BLAZIN ’QUARTET has played in Brazil, Thailand and China, which shows the international reputation of the team. Sleeping Beauty is the formation's fourth opus after Finding A Way in 2009, Jalkan Bazz in 2012 and La Mer, La Pierre, La Terre, L'Oiseau in 2017. The quartet now consists of Andreas Polyzogopoulos on trumpet, Frederico Casagrande on guitar, Mihail Ivanov on double bass and of course Srdjan Ivanovic on drums and keyboards. This is the second time he has invited Magic Malik to come and play the flute on his album, and the title that gave its name to the album was inspired by his wife, Catherine ... the idea of beauty asleep that only the awakened mind can see! On Sleeping Beauty you are entitled to 6 compositions, signed Srdjan Ivanovic, one is co-written with the guitarist and two songs are interpretations of compositions by Ennio Morricone. His music, described as a “twist of conventions, beautiful and intriguing” (according to The Downbeat and All About Jazz) inevitably plunges us into an undeniable sound tranquility. As for many artists and groups in 2020, this album was produced during the confinement period ... The composer was then in the countryside. It is easy to imagine how such a period can be conducive to introspective reflections and the silences that musicians so need to create and compose. The gentle cover illustration by Séverine Scaglia completes and sums up this perfect musical work perfectly!
