James Davis, better known as Boo Boo Davis is Mississippi native Blues harmonica player and singer. At the age of five he sung in the church, then plaid guitar and eventually started playing with his father and older brothers in family band called The Lard Can Band. His father was a musician who plaid with such greats as John Lee Hooker, Elmore James and Robert Pete Williams. Boo Boo remembers their rehearsals and it is obvious ha has well adopted such a great experience.

Can Man is his best cd so far. It's rather eclectic. It seems Howlin' Wolf sings from Chicago in the title song, which is delivered in Wolf style. Boo Boo can allow him such imitation having loud, deep, powerful voice, developed in cotton fields, where he raised and used to work before becoming full-time musician. Boo's Boogie Woogie is a fiery, burning composition in best traditions of the genre where piano work of Wybren Feenstra should also be noticed. Keep On Lovin' Me Baby is homage to Mississippi Hill Country Blues traditions. Amsterdam Blues gets you outside traditional blues borders while houserockin' Right On sets you again where true blues is to be. Boo Boo plays and sings the blues as he feels it, from head to feet, sings smoothly, in a burst of inspiration. It's remarkable cd, that's how Mississippi Blues sounds today.

Personnel: Boo Boo Davis (vocals, harmonica); Jan Mittendorp (guitar); Wybren Feenstra (piano); Greg Edick (bass); Erik Spanjers (drums); Dirk Vermeij (percussion). ~pastblues
