Sometime in 2008, just months after its existence, Graveyard Train recorded a collection of tracks they'd been playing in Melbourne’s seedy bars n pubs. A creepy old Scout Hall and a busted tape machine, the then 5 piece compiled what would be their first official album – ‘The Serpent & The Crow’.

With no drums, no bass, and no idea, 'The Serpent & The Crow' was recorded and mixed by the lads themselves. It included the earliest versions of successful tracks like ‘Ballad For Beelzebub’ and ‘Scarecrow’. They sought out the support of local Melbourne label ‘Afterdark Records’, but shortly after their addition the label folded… R.I.P.

Consequently, the band put what little money they had into working on their following album ‘The Drink The Devil & The Dance’, and never repressed ‘The Serpent & The Crow’ after its first release. To date there are only 1000 copies in existence, probably floating around at the bottom of a drawer or acting as a beer coaster.

Although a lot of inexperience and good times went into the album, it strives in its originality. The songs and performance are there. It embodies all that Graveyard Train were, and are. Deep wells, death, psychotic thoughts, voodoo men - finally making their way into the Australian country music scene. ‘The Serpent & The Crow’, the beginnings of a monster.
