Mama's Blues Joint - Changes (2014) Lossless

This is the third release from this much acclaimed Danish Blues band. This is a very eclectic mix of eleven songs written by lead singer and winner of the Danish Blues Award in 2010 Lene Stroyer. There is an emotional groove and seamless thread to this release showing the band keep improving their music styles from previous releases. The mix of songs expose differing musical genres encompassing soul reggae fused funk and even country tones. Every track has something new on it making this a very easy listening but heartfelt approach and what a gifted band. Lead singer really can belt it out yet bring tone down when needed. The opening track The Devil In Me introduces a big band sound. All tracks show off the undoubted talent of every member from the subtle riffs by lead guitarist Lars Fabiansen interwoven with a terrific backing horn section arranged by Nis Toxverd. Lasse Storgaard brings another dimension with an array of piano styles .There are slow soulful mixes as on the sweet melancholic vocal tones of My Favourite Song moving onto a more funky rhythm of Try Me Baby. Then a total change on the reggae infused beat of a particular favourite Dont Take Me For Granted with subtle horns and light backing vocals. Another highlight is Why a slow soulful lilting story of unrequited love. The rhythm is lifted again on Don’t Let Me Down. A groove driven powerful release.
