A tapestry of beautiful traditional songs from Scotland - several by Robert Burns - plus a couple from England and Ireland, are featured on this album on Sanctiandree, the label of the University of St Andrews, performed by St Salvator's Chapel Choir under the direction of University Organist Tom Wilkinson.

These arrangements of such popular melodies as 'The Skye Boat Song', 'The Turtle Dove', 'Loch Lomond' and 'Auld Lang Syne' stem from the pens of such distinguished musical figures as Ralph Vaughan-Williams, and the late Sir David Willcocks as well as from present University Organist Tom Wilkinson and one of his illustrious predecessors, John Kitchen, whose beautiful version of 'The Isle of Mull' opens the disc.

'So Deep' by Scotland's most acclaimed composer, James MacMillan, is a wonderfully imaginative setting of Burns' 'O my luve's like a red, red rose'.

As a substantial bonus track, the CD also features a performance by Tom Wilkinson, of Scotland's most famous piece of orchestral classical music, the romantic overture 'The Land of the Mountain and the Flood' by Hamish MacCunn, in a virtuosic organ transcription by Jeremy Cull, heard here on the spectacular 1923 Harrison and Harrison concert organ of the Caird Hall in Dundee.

'Ca' the Yowes' reflects the longstanding tradition of singing and arranging such songs in the University, especially during Graduation ceremonies, when the choir performs to many thousands of visitors from all over the world.
