A collaboration between dub producer Manasseh and virtuoso violin-viola player Praise, this is the culmination of their work together over the last ten years and follows the 2011 single 'Matter of Struggle'. An audiographic blend of classical and reggae music, the unique result of the artists' backgrounds, creates a heavy rhythm that carries many layers of feeling and reflects the calm within the chaos of city living.
The mesmerising visual accompanying the lead single 'Yes Mic', captures this duality and takes it further. The journey from West to South London during lockdown follows the route that Manasseh took, from where the sound system was built for Notting Hill Carnival 1985, to his first studio in Brixton, from 1991-2000, visited by Dennis Brown, Sugar Minot and Johnny Osbourne to name but a few. After 10 years in the countryside, Nick is now back in Ladbroke Grove where the sound started and this album was produced, along with his other releases on Roots Garden Records and music for people all over the world.
Praise is a classically trained violinist with a deep love of Reggae music. As a young man his musical experiences have been diverse from playing on Ravi Shankar and George Harrison's last album 'Chants Of India' to gigs with Gorillaz and being a member of The Clinic (Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee's former band). Back in 2006 he met Manasseh at a music festival and the two hit it off musically and together they began to write music, with Manasseh's heavy beats and unique style and Praise's deep flourishes of the violin bow together they have composed this classic and timeless album born of their love of Reggae music.
Nick Manasseh has been involved in Reggae music since the mid-eighties, as a Sound System operator and radio DJ, and moved into production from around 1987, when he's credited as pioneering the UK steppas genre of dub music. He plays many instruments, in particular bass and rhythm guitar, percussion and melodica.
