Calvin Powers:
Some of the softest, prettiest, acoustic guitar I’ve ever heard, coupled with deep felt coffee house lyrics. Great music when you need something quiet and peaceful to put you in touch with something deep inside.
Lyndon Bolton: :
A very stripped back sound with acres of space for Nolan’s rasping voice to explore his melancholia. His honesty is as direct and bleak as his playing. His folk with splashes of country completely absorbs.
Bill Rutsch:
First impression is a sound from across the pond, of British fingerpicking folk singers from decades ago. His acoustic guitar has a high strung, tenor sound. His voice has a rapid vibrato in the upper registers. Then those vocals show more grit and gravel from the western (albeit, Canadian) plains, a stripped down Springsteen sound with a little harmonica. The close in, personal sound can sound like an early Paul Simon guitar and vocal. There is a sadness and atmospheric space on other tunes like “Missing” (and the outro at the end of the record).
