Nick & June - My November My (2017) Hi-Res

Previously, the critics agreed: Nick & June are the Nuremberg variant of Angus & Julia Stone. The duo played fragile to dreamy, predominantly acoustic folk pop, bittersweet and balladesk. This is changing dramatically, literally. The new, second album of the duo Nick & June, which has grown into the band, is a conceptual work: a predominantly monologized drama about the fictional character "November Boy". Originally a prose work, the individual chapters became lyrical texts and finally musical pieces. And those are far from any simple folk pop design. Nick & June set up a large, carefully arranged set of instruments to pick up Hall's tracks. This contains a lot of melancholic thought, finally, the November Boy is plagued with self-doubt, disappointment and bitterness. But "My November My" also kisses and tugs, and it is even barked angrily. This is a good thing for the album, because it gives it a dynamic, which gently circumvents the threatening boredom through too strong artistic control and epic moments. Sometimes it is also political, isolated even explicitly ("Fuck 3rd Of October"). "My November My" actually makes the impression of a real rock opera - especially because one thing is completely missing: every ease. And this is completely without value.
