Massimo Nosetti - Lorenzo Perosi: Missa Pontificalis - Missa Secunda Pontificalis (2019)

Son of Giuseppe Perosi, choirmaster in the Cathedral of Tortona and protagonist of the reform of Italian sacred music, he was born in Tortona on 21 December 1872 and died in Rome on 12 December 1956. Initiated by his father to study music, he began regular studies at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome and, later, at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in Milan with M. Saladino. In 1890 he was appointed organist and singing teacher in the Abbey of Montecassino. In 1892 he resumed his studies at the Milan Conservatory where he obtained his diploma. He studied in Regensburg with F.X. Haberl and M. Haller, in 1893. Towards the end of that year he assumed the position of singing teacher in the Seminary of Imola, directing the Cathedral Chapel, like that of San Marco in Venice. Ordained priest, he was able to make himself known by conducting performances of his own oratorial compositions and, in 1898 he became director of the Sistine Chapel and, from 1903 with the title of perpetual teacher, a commitment that he had to interrupt between 1915 and 1923 due to health problems . On 22 October 1930 he was appointed Academician of Italy.
