Although the members of Bear had some roots in the 1960s folk scene, their late-1960s album was actually an average psychedelic outing, and not an especially folk-rock-inclined one. Artie Traum and Eric Kaz had played in the rock band Children of Paradise, who recorded for Columbia. On the sole Bear album, titled (probably in a nod to the name of their prior group) Greetings, Children of Paradise, they were joined by Steve Soles, with Skip Boone (brother of the Lovin' Spoonful's Steve Boone) and Darius Davenport of the band Autosalvage contributing. The record is a mish-mash of period styles, not especially good or bad, from good-time rock and Beatlesque meanderings to songs with psychedelic guitar solos and loose, jazzy feels.
