Diyar Diyar Jazz is a project that brings together two great musical traditions. It aims to create a transition that will help intercultural dialogue in artistic context by bringing together Jazz and Turkish Folk Music, and in this respect, it attracts a wide audience other than jazz lovers.
Spiral Quartet of European origin, establishment of a contemporary jazz group that places cultural sharing between France and Turkey today. The quartet, who took Turkish Folk Music works in their repertoire at their first concerts, reveals their desire to know this rich music very different from their own culture at every opportunity.
While 2009 was celebrated as the Turkish season in France, the Spiral Quartet participated in the event with the 'Diyar Diyar Jazz' project. because; After admiring the artists who acted with great flexibility on the complex rhythms of Turkish Folk Music, they sought to introduce this music to the French people and decided to share the pleasure of performing it with the Turkish people.
This album is also important as a common space where Spiral Quartet can express itself freely without denying the identity of Turkish Folk Music and jazz in the continuation of this process.
Established in 2005, the story of Spiral Quartet, the group leader Philippe Poussard thanks to the Turkish wife, no stranger begins by exploring a country and culture. His classical music and composition background leads Poussard to engage in artistic formations that are entirely new to him, and Poussard proposes to include Turkish Folk Music works in his repertoire for members of his group.
