After “Les combattants” Ad Vitam is our second musical association with Thomas Cailley.
We started working on this soundtrack from the very scripts. Thomas wished to use mainly electronic sounds that would suggest the feeling of a dark and unsecure future since the rising of a society where people become immortal and where human repro- duction has become totally outdated. When first images came out we started working on main themes and gradually developed the remaining score. In order to make things sound more constrasting we mainly use syn- thesizers, analogic beatboxes (sequential circuits, Juno 60 & 106, Korg, Poly Evolver, Prophet 6, CR68, etc...) and vintage audio equipment and backline. We also do like adding acoustic instruments such as drums, percs, pianos etc. Embedded in the score as well are children choirs that suggest a certain soul or maybe the hopeful youth. Our com- position work as a trio generally begins with individual sound research which progres- sively enriches by sharing and fusing ses- sions as the series gets shot and edited so that we can find a more accurate color and range of themes.
We have been so lucky to work very freely and close to Thomas to draw up this tough universe.
