Anyone who likes his indie rock in the colors of the nineties - and with a woman on the front line - is in the right place with the Amsterdam quartet Slow Worries. They think so too, because in the accompanying press bio the references are flying around your ears. That goes from fairly obscure (Ovlov, Slant 6) to obvious (The Breeders, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), while I often had to think of Magnapop, Sleater-Kinney and Veruca Salt myself.

Anyway, it should be clear where the musical coordinates are. Of course, the question soon arises whether they also have something special. Fortunately, these four are pretty good, probably also because they have been around for longer than today (band members were and are in acts such as Apnea, HOWRAH, Bombay and a few other names) and in the meantime they know how to polish your sound to something characteristic. And something powerful, because that is what is especially striking about this album debut. Could it be because of Gijs Loots' baritone guitar (instead of bass)? Andy Moor from The Ex has one of those things too, adding a remarkable dynamism to their double loop guitar sound. The same thing happens at Slow Worries. But perhaps it is the surefire eloquence - in text and song melody - of Maaike Muntinga. Or the catchiness of songs like Wall Stories, Devil, When We Go Out and Active Recovery. Or all those things together. Either way: nice guitar record.
