"A composer on free feet"
After the celebrated start of the series “Böck reads Bruckner” provided insights into the Upper Austrian period of life and the composer's self-image, the second reading with music is devoted to Bruckner's decades-long, admittedly unsuccessful, search for a wife, introducing some of the women who were chosen as partners and addresses the "downright absurd amounts of hasty marriage proposals" (Hans-Joachim Hinrichsen) of the eternal bachelor, as well as the letters with which admirers made advances to the composer, who has now achieved fame and prestige. The texts, which bring a piece of social history of the 19th century to life and throw a spotlight on the gender roles of the time, are musically framed and commented on by dedication compositions by Bruckner, love songs and excerpts from the so-called Kitzler study book, which contains works and drafts that show the composer on the way to developing an individual style.
Wolfgang Böck born in Linz, trained as an actor in Graz; Theater engagements: Theater for Vorarlberg, Bregenz Festival, Landestheater Linz, Volkstheater Wien; 1984 Josef Kainz Medal (sponsorship award), 1985/86 Karl Skraup Prize, freelance actor since 1987, including at the Theater in der Josefstadt, Schauspielhaus Zurich, Renaissance Theater Berlin, at the Salzburg Festival and at the Vienna Volksoper; three-time Romy Prize winner (2005, 2007, 2009), 2006 Actor Prize at the Baden-Baden Television Film Festival (for Brothers III), State Culture Prize 2010 of Burgenland, 2017 first winner of the Golden TV Handcuff; countless film and television engagements.
