The Popguns - Love Junky (Remastered & Extended) (2020)

love junky was originally released in 1995 and was the popguns third studio album, marking a departure in style away from the more frantic 'c86' style featured on their previous albums and john peel sessions. this sound certainly edged toward the 'commercial' and even resulted in some radio 1 daytime airplay for the lead single 'star' which featured as record of the week on the station's lunchtime slot. the subject matter of the songs had developed too, with more imagined characters appearing alongside the very personal torch songs like someone to dream of and so cold . fans of the popguns have always loved them for their strong song writing, energetic guitar power-pop and the rich, emotive vocals of lead singer wendy morgan. comparisons to 10,000 maniacs and blondie are most common but the songs always shine with a very british sense of the every day. the album is now being re-issued as an extended and re-mastered cd now featuring 9 extra bonus tracks from the singles that completed their 90's output for 3rd stone records. the band reformed in 2013 and recently played a sell-out performance of the album in their home city of brighton to coincide with and help celebrate the release of the limited edition coloured vinyl version of the lp released for this year's record store day. the greatness of this album was confirmed 20 years after release when second time around was a feature track on bbc tv's home under the hammer ! vindication at last.
