MANGROVES is a four track EP recorded in Nairobi, Kenya in 2018 as a collaboration between UK producer CONTOURS and a selection of Kenya’s most accomplished musicians, formed as PYRAMID PROJECT by ADA Records Label Head, LASTA.
Recorded in two days in ADA Records studio, each track was created with a truly collaborative and improvised approach.
As a result, the vibe in the studio sessions was electric, with the team jamming on a clear concept for each track. After composition and rehearsal, each track was recorded in no more than three takes, providing a truly live feel.
The title track MANGROVES has been edited by Contours who focuses on the interaction of the rhythm section, elongating sections of tightly locked in drums, bass and dubbed out percussion for a driving, cosmic club cut; whilst the second track DRIVER, was remixed with added horns, into an Afro-Disco banger by LASTA.
