This release includes all existing music related to the classic Max Roach-Clifford Brown Quintet’s albums "Study in Brown" (EmArcy MG36037), and "More Study in Brown" (EmArcy Japan 195J-1). It consists of the original contents of both albums, complemented by every surviving alternate take of the tunes from the LPs. These albums are among the most treasured gems in jazz history.
The booklet includes current as well as original liner notes, rare original Down Beat reviews, and the complete Clifford Brown Blindfold Test, conducted by Leonard Feather in Down Beat shortly before the trumpeter’s tragic death.
As a bonus, a long live version of “Take the ‘A’ Train” by the quintet that complements the shorter studio reading from "Study in Brown".
