Julien Ribot - Vega (2008)

If we could only say one thing about Vega, Julien Ribot's third album, it is that it is a kind of experiment of coherence taken to its climax. Whether it is at the level of the deliciously sweet melodies, the texts or the padded dream that emerges from the whole, the album exudes an incredibly heady fragrance of unity, and yet it is not a concept -album, each title having its own story (with often surreal texts, even completely meaningless).

Julien Ribot's influences are multiple and abound on Vega. From Serge Gainsbourg to Benjamin Biolay via Air and even Michel Polnareff, who comes to mind both in the omnipresent melancholy and the 70's production of the album, Julien Ribot seems to have digested everything and gives birth to a record here. pop under control, without plagiarism or heaviness. However, the Niçois does not disappear behind the weight of his influences. He distils them while keeping control over his album, perfectly arranged.
