Few would argue that 2020 has been a different year, especially for the entertainment industry.
Terry Baucom’s Dukes of Drive felt ‘FINE TIME TO GET THE BLUES’ was the perfect anthem for this year, making it the title track of their latest release on Baucom’s own label, Driving Duke Records. Despite cancelled shows, closed venues and travel bans, Baucom has a huge milestone to celebrate this year.In 1970, immediately following high school graduation, he was hired by Charlie Moore and started a professional career in music that has literally taken him all over the world. As a founding member of Boone Creek, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, IIIrd Tyme Out, Lou Reid Terry Baucom & Carolina and BlueRidge, his driving banjo style is widely known.
‘FINE TIME TO GET THE BLUES’ features ten cuts---two of which were released earlier this year, with both going to #1 on the Bluegrass Today Chart AND both written by 2020 IBMA Songwriter of the Year, Milan Miller: Here Come The Teardrops and Every Road I Travel. The Gospel offering on this release, Will The Light Be Shining Bright, features Terry’s wife, Cindy, on the lead vocal. It topped the weekly Gospel Chart from Bluegrass Today multiple times earlier this year. Cindy is also featured on a cover of Buck Owen’s Under Your Spell Again. Will Jones (guitar and vocals) shines on the current single, Hang Me High At Midnight and shares the remainder of lead vocal duties throughout with mandolinist, Joey Lemons. Joe Hannabach rounds out the group on bass. 2020 IBMA Dobro Player of the Year, Justin Moses, contributes to the title track, as well as, Me, Myself and Why--penned by Adam Engelhardt, Eddie Sanders and Jon Weisberger- on dobro and fiddle respectively. With 50 years of road memories, friendships and recordings, Terry Baucom is very grateful...and he looks forward to continuing this path he started on as an eager teenager in 1970.
