Like a lot of blues artists in the 1950s, Jimmy McCracklin hopped around between labels frequently, taking his soulful, R&B-anticipating blues sound where money and equipment were available. This installment of the CHRONOLOGICAL JIMMY MCCRACKLIN in the Rhythm and Blue Classics Series collects the artist's work between 1951 and 1954 when he was recording for the Modern, Swing Time, and Peacock labels. The addition of guitarist Lafayette Thomas to McCracklin's band gave it an added boost during this time, but it's McCracklin's piano and vocals, both of which radiate a sense of giddy fun, that make this a must. ~AMG
