Gunn-Truscinski Duo - Soundkeeper (2020)

It's been a decade now that the pair Steve Gunn and John Truscinski bewitched us as it should. The renowned duo of musicians landed in 2010 with a debut record and subsequently conquered a large audience. Three years after their most immersive Bay Head, they come back to take us very far with their fourth album called Soundkeeper.

For once, Gunn-Truscinski Duo continues to paint a multitude of landscapes from elsewhere with this music based on improvisation. The guitarist and the drummer roll up their sleeves and take us to the afterlife from "Gam" followed by "Distance" and "Pyramid Merchandise" where they blur the lines between drone, folk and psychedelic music with great ease.

Alternately hypnotic with "Into" or threatening with "Northwest" where we clearly delve into drone atmospheres, the Gunn / Trunscinki duo continues to make their own with their contemplative and ambitious compositions born of extraordinary jam sessions. The same can be said of titles such as the title track which captures the essence of this immersive disc with these unexpected moments which explode on all sides but also "Ocean City" and "Curtain" before ending with a "For Eddie" Hazel ”virtuoso and cosmic showing that they know how to experiment as they see fit. Between them, they always work miracles in music and we will not deprive ourselves of them.
