This programme features two main choral works of Benjamin Britten. From the lone middle C at the beginning of Rejoice in the Lamb to the fading 'Alleluias' at the end of A Ceremony of Carols there is little in this recital that springs directly from the traditions of English Church music as generally understood in the middle of the 20th century. Britten had many associations with Norwich, Aldeburgh being close by in Suffolk and it seems fitting that the cathedral choir should record a recital of many of his choral works.
