The Fabulous Thunderbirds precedes the reputation of being one of the pioneering 'white' blues bands. In fact, the band around the highly talented Jimmie Vaughan and Kim Wilson could put real exclamation point, but stood upon closer inspection but always in the shadow of Jimmie's younger brother Stevie Ray. And the plates, as to be discussed here debut album "Girls Go Wild", initially sold well more bad than good. To properly washed - at least in this country - until the blues revival of the early nineties, the Fabulous Thunderbirds really up.
At this wave 'surfing' the band around the only remaining founding member Kim Wilson to this day not only quite successful, but has since gained a true cult status. The
Live performances are still a real experience - at least once in your life you should have seen the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmie Vaughan, though of course lacking in every nook and cranny. But between the two masterminds of the founding generation seems to be the 'chemistry' of the already prolonged not to vote ...
This to be discussed here "Girls Go Wild" was released only in 1979, five years after the Fabulous Thunderbirds had founded. A solid commitment over four years as a house band to a blues shed in his native Austin / Texas had ambitions for recordings are probably hintenan once. There then went on an annual basis blow by blow to the studio. The first four discs are now - upgraded with bonus tracks - has been launched by Repertoire Records over again.
First, it is striking that not consuming 'tinkering' with the sound, but was remastered discreet. So authentic and raw as the blues of the Fabulous Thunderbirds sound these recordings, in particular the studio takes. Here, the band consistently operated at extremely traditional fabric. The shuffle dances, the scrubs Boogie and Fifties rock'n'roll schmalzt that it is a pure joy. Noticeable also is the lead role Kim Wilson's songwriting - almost all original compositions are from his pen. Here sting especially the two instrumentals "Pocket Rocket" (a brisk shuffle) and "C-Boy Blues" (a pithy Slow Blues) produced, which has perfectly tailored to his Harpsoli the singer.
In the foreign compositions outshines the Canned Heat number "Rich Woman", which is converted to a typical Texas blues, almost everything. Very cool even "She's Tuff", a blast of the peak Harper Jerry 'Boogie' McCain and snappy boogie out of a textbook. Quite surprisingly, this is the urplötzliche wind attack to the final chords.
All eleven songs blare around not awkward but pleasant come quickly to the point; more than half do not tear once the magic three-minute mark, and thus bring 'soon' and 'spice' to a common denominator.
The bonus tracks are not a real novelty for the well-stocked Thunderbirds collector. These songs have been recorded during a tour of the UK and first appeared on the rarities album "Different Tacos" (1996). They prove impressively that this force was almost better live than on record (and is). Takes all come in the live version much punchier and more energetic over than on record. Highlight here is the up-tempo Boogie "Feelin 'Good", a cover of the Memphis blues legend Junior Parker, at the Jimmie Vaughan the infamous' Wolf' plays Kim Wilson really droning the last of his vocal cords, and the rhythm section so gorgeous surprise is otherwise known only from Double Trouble.
Repertoire has the funny cover missed a little more color in the advertising columns style, but the musical content retained its originality. Who is on tradional Blues and the Fabulous Thunderbirds actually should not know it is impossible to get past "Girls Go Wild"! ~Online translation from German.
