The independent London label Upset The Rhythm continues to offer us some surprising discoveries. The latest example is called Naked Roommate which is a cheeky name. This is a band that comes to us from Berkeley that combines post-punk and sweaty electronica for a rather impressive result. And they are in their first long-format called Do The Duvet following their first EP released two years earlier.
Very quickly, Naked Roommate succeeded in making a compromise between these two musical genres through these ten pieces with 80's atmospheres where Liquid Liquid and Vivien Goldman reigned supreme. Amber Sermeno manages to captivate her audience with her solemn song while Andy Jordan's machines are at her command, whether on the introductory track called "Mad Love" halfway between ESG and Ravioli Me Away or the afro guitars to Rachel Aggs from “We Are The Babies” which follow and the robotic “Found Guru” with a crazy saxophone solo as a bonus.
From then on, the Naked Roommate machine is launched and it shows us all the colors. Whether it's the catchy synthetic disco-funk of “Je suis le bébé” or the dub-like “Fill Space” with well-pronounced reverbs, the Oakland duo hypnotizes us with this palette of musical influences that suits them. delight and this until the explosive "Repeat". With Do The Duvet which ends with a "(Re) P.R.O.D.U.C.E. »High level, the Sermeno / Jordan tandem has a sacred universe that we will not come out unscathed.
