SHANNON LOWE is one of the most prominent bassoonists and pedagogues of the southeastern United States. Throughout her career, Lowe has performed in the role of principal bassoon and as soloist with regional symphony orchestras and at International Double Reed Society conferences. She has also presented master classes and guest performances at colleges and universities throughout the United States. Internationally, she has performed at conferences, music festivals and in concert tours with a number of professional chamber music groups. Lowe is passionate about presenting clinics tailored for music educators that center on bassoon instruction and has been a featured guest clinician for the Florida and Georgia Music Educators Associations and the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference. Lowe has been a part of several commissioning consortiums for new bassoon repertoire, working with composers Alexis Ciesla, John Steinmetz, Gregory Wanamaker and others. Lowe is currently Assistant Professor of Bassoon and Aural Skills at the University of Florida. Before her arrival at the University, she served as Associate Professor of Bassoon at Valdosta State University in Georgia. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Bassoon Performance at SUNY Stony Brook, where she studied with renowned performer and pedagogue, Frank Morelli. Lowe received her Bachelor of Music Education degree with a Performer’s Certificate as well as her Master of Music in Bassoon Performance degree from the University of Florida, studying with Arnold Irchai and Kim Woolly.

Double Bassist Maurice Belle is an accomplished and versatile musician who has performed at major venues throughout the United States and abroad. A frequent player in several New York-based orchestras, Belle regularly performs at Carnegie Hall, in all five boroughs and throughout the tri-state region. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Maurice earned his undergraduate degree in double bass performance from the Manhattan School of Music and a graduate diploma from The Juilliard School where he studied under Tim Cobb, principal bassist of the Metropolitan Opera. He also studied with the late Homer Mensch of the NBC Symphony and Ralph Jones, principal bassist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Ken Davis is an active orchestral musician based in Tallahassee, Florida, and has played with the Mobile Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony, Ann Arbor Symphony and Sinfonia Gulf Coast, among others. Davis began playing the violin at the age of six during his parents’ stay as missionaries in the eastern European country of Latvia. Upon his return to the United States, he began an education in music with an emphasis in violin performance. He attended Florida State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree under the tutelage of Eliot Chapo, Beth Newdome and Corinne Stillwell. Following his time in Florida, he spent two years in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan, pursuing a Master of Music Performance degree with Aaron Berofsky.

Kristin Pfeifer Yu performs with Valdosta State University’s Quartet-in-Residence, the Azalea String Quartet, and is Principal Second Violin with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra. As a music educator and advocate, Pfeifer Yu is an active board member of the National String Project Consortium and is a registered Suzuki violin teacher. She has presented clinics regionally and nationally, including sessions at multiple American String Teachers Association national conferences, performances at the International Society of Bassists Convention and at the International Double Reed Society Conference. She is currently Senior Lecturer of Violin and Director and Master Teacher of the South Georgia String Project at Valdosta State University.

Laurel Yu currently performs with the Azalea String Quartet and as Principal Viola with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, of which he is also Personnel Manager. An active performer, he is also Principal Viola and Artistic Administrator for Sinfonia Gulf Coast and a founding member of Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s Chamber Players. Also the head Administrator for the South Georgia String Project, he is currently Assistant Professor of Viola at Valdosta State University.

Steven Taylor has performed as a soloist with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Toledo Symphony, Savannah Symphony and the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as principal cellist of The Little Orchestra Society of Toledo, and has been a member of the Toledo Symphony, North Carolina Symphony and Savannah Symphony orchestras. A member of the faculty at Valdosta State University since 1992, Taylor served as principal cellist of the Valdosta Symphony and cellist of the Azalea String Quartet. He performed the American premier of Johan de Meij’s Casanova in 2001 and the world premiere of Arthur Rodriguez’s Elegy and Rondo in 2009 with the VSU Wind Ensemble. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Taylor was a recipient of the Eva Shapiro Memorial Scholarship.
