Cream - Pop History Vol. 1 (1972) [Vinyl]

Cream was a power rock trio founded in London in 1966, Jack Bruce (bass and vocals), Ginger Baker (drums) and Eric Clapton (guitar and vocals). Their sound was characterized by being a hybrid of blues, psychedelic rock and pop.

Cream is often regarded as the first successful supergroup and despite having been around for just over two years, 1 has sold more than fifteen million copies worldwide by 2011, according to Rolling Stone magazine. had a significant impact on popular music of the time and, together with Jimi Hendrix, popularized the use of the wah-wah pedal.

After recording four full-length albums Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels of Fire, and Goodbye — the group broke up in late 1968 due to the bad relationship between Baker and Bruce. The band subsequently reunited in 1993 for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 8 and in 2005, for performances at the Royal Albert Hall and Madison Square Garden.

Despite its short history, Cream has influenced a large number of later groups, and has been included in the list of the “100 greatest artists of all time” by Rolling Stone magazine. In 2006, the trio received an honorary Grammy in recognition of their artistic career.
In January 1993, Cream was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.71 At the event, the trio performed “Sunshine of Your Love,” “Crossroads” and “Born Under a Bad Sign.” 72 In his speech after accepting such recognition, Clapton commented that the rehearsal held the day before the ceremony had been the first time the band had played together in twenty-five years.

Despite its short career, Cream influenced several later artists and bands, and laid the foundations for the later creation of heavy metal. Groups influenced by the trio include Black Sabbath, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Rush, Van Halen, AC / DC, Kiss, Judas Priest, The Police, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Scorpions, The Allman Brothers Band, Aerosmith and Deep Purple, among many others.
On the other hand, individually the members of Cream; Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton, and Jack Bruce have been featured frequently on the greatest drummer, guitarist, and bassist lists ever.

As a drummer, Ginger Baker has influenced a large number of later drummers of different musical genres, including Bill Ward, Billy Cobham, Peter Criss, Ian Paice, Nick Mason, John Bonham, Dave Lombardo, Chad Smith, Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart Bruce Eder of the Allmusic website calls him “the greatest drummer of the 1960s” and notes that “virtually every drummer in every heavy metal band has tried to emulate him.”
For his part, Eric Clapton; Chosen by Rolling Stone magazine as the second best guitarist in history, he has influenced musicians such as Eddie Van Halen, Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, KK Downing, Andreas Kisser, Derek Trucks, Kirk Hammett, Zakk Wylde or Tommy Bolin, among others.
As a bass player, Jack Bruce was an inspiration to Geezer Butler, who emulated “his finger playing and copying the riff instead of answering it”; Sting, Geddy Lee, Gene Simmons, Jeff Berlin, Billy Sheehan, Michael Anthony, or Dusty Hill, to name a few.
