“I will cherish this run of Scott & Charlene’s Wedding shows forever. It has been an honour.” - Craig Dermody
Bedroom Suck Records is proud to present a rare new offering from Melbourne’s much-loved heart-on-the-sleeve rock and rollers, Scott & Charlene’s Wedding.
Led by Craig Dermody’s honest lyricism and infectious smile, the Melbourne five-piece returned to their home ground, The Tote Hotel, for one last hurrah earlier this year, after blowing Saturday morning out of the water to a chorus of raised boots at Meredith Music Festival earlier that summer.
The band, made up of vocalist Craig Dermody, bassist Jack Farley, guitarist Ela Stiles and drummer Joe Alexander, were joined by ex-guitarist Gill Tucker for a string of shows including this memorable performance that took over The Tote Hotel on a steamy Saturday night in January. It was a celebration of the ten-plus years of the band’s existence, with emotions running high as the band churned through a set of old hits and new favourites. Careening momentarily out of control, the band are joined on stage by UV Race frontman Marcus Reichsteiner, before Dermody stage-dives and loses a shoe somewhere to the crowd and a final chorus of ‘Live it Up’ goes flying around the room accompanied by healthy sprinklings of spilt beer.
It’s all there on tape; quietly captured for generations to come: the highs and the lows, the passion and heartbreak. These recordings are Craig Dermody’s celebration of a long stint in the music game, a time surrounded by friends, lovers, and everyday heroes. If there is one thing Scott & Charlene’s Wedding found the power to do, it was to lift us up, bringing hope to many by celebrating the small miracles to be found in all of our lives.
The band have hung up tools for now, and live music is nowhere to be seen. In this difficult time, when a steamy night at the Tote feels like a fragment of some long-forgotten dream, the best we can do is offer these recordings with a grin and a shrug. Look to a friend, and share a special moment like those found in these recordings. I think that’s what Scott & Charlene’s would want us to do.
'Live at the Tote' out October 2, 2020 thru Bedroom Suck Records.
