Various Artists - Echoes of Veiled Light - 21st Century Chamber Music (2020)

ZACK STANTON is an active and versatile composer, with a catalog that includes works for orchestra, wind ensemble, choir and chamber ensembles. His music has been performed throughout the United States and abroad with great success. Stanton received First Prize in the International Horn Society Composition Contest for his Trio for Horn, Viola and Harp and the Sanibel-Captiva Trust Prize in Choral Composition for Before You Kissed Me. His Concerto for Piano and Wind Ensemble received Honorable Mention in the Frederick Fennell Competition, sponsored by ASCAP and the Concert Band Directors National Association. Stanton’s orchestral works have been performed by the Conway Symphony Orchestra, University of Texas Symphony Orchestra and Austin Symphony Orchestra. Recent commissions have come from pianist David Gompper, oboist Courtney Miller, bassoonist Benjamin Coelho, trumpeter Jesse Cook and horn player Anne-Marie Cherry, and from the University of Georgia, Millikin University Percussion Ensemble and line upon line percussion. Also active as a performer, Stanton served as a pianist and conductor for the University of Texas New Music Ensemble, for which he served as Assistant Director for four years. Currently, he assists as a conductor with the Center for New Music at the University of Iowa. Stanton, who received his Doctor of Musical Arts in composition from the University of Texas at Austin, is currently Lecturer of Composition and Theory at the University of Iowa. Prior to his appointment there, he taught at Belmont University and the University of Texas at Austin.

Anne-Marie Cherry is a versatile horn player and educator. A strong advocate of composer-performer collaboration, Cherry frequently commissions new works. She is the featured solo horn on the soundtrack of the film The Last Full Measure. Dr. Cherry teaches at the Schwob School of Music and is Co-Principal Horn of the BreckMusic Festival.

Jesse Cook is the Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the University of Central Florida. He has performed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony and Jacksonville Symphony, among others. Also in demand as a recitalist and clinician, Dr. Cook has performed for, judged and instructed collegiate students at universities and conservatories across the United States and in Europe.

Mark Foley is Principal Double Bass of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. Foley is the founder and director of the Knob Festival of New Music, an annual series of concerts presenting performances of new works by local, national and international artists. He is a mainstay of the Wichita jazz scene and is also an avid bluegrass player.

Alexander Hettinga maintains an active career as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician. Hettinga spent three years studying and performing harp trio repertoire with the Hugo Trio, winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Auditions and the CMU Silberman Chamber Competition. He holds degrees in violin and viola from the Carnegie Mellon School of Music.

Sarunas Jankauskas has performed as a clarinetist throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, while also participating at International Conservatory Week, Musicalis Daunia, Chamber Music at the Barn and various conferences and new music events. Jankauskas, joined James Madison University in 2016, has commissioned and composed several new works for clarinet.

line upon line percussion trio, established in 2009, has formed a reputation for being one of the most engaging and innovative groups of its kind. The Austin-based group has premiered more than 40 new works for percussion, and performs and teaches internationally. line upon line consists of its three original members, Adam Bedell, Cullen Faulk and Matthew Teodori.

Pianist Edward Neeman has performed across five continents as a soloist and with orchestras, including the Prague Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, Melbourne Symphony, Kentucky Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and American West Symphony. Born in Australia, Neeman received a Doctorate degree from the Juilliard School and currently teaches piano at Australian National University.

Harpist Colleen Potter Thorburn has earned national recognition as a winner of the American Harp Society’s Anne Adams competition. An experienced orchestral and chamber musician, Thorburn is also a founding member of the new-music duo, Apple Orange Pair, with whom she has premiered 18 works. She received a Doctorate degree from the Yale School of Music.
