Joshua Michal maintains an active career as a soloist and ensemble musician. Michal is a member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Hartford Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Columbus Symphony, Albany Symphony, Portland Symphony Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and Le Orchestre de la Francophonie Canadienne. Michal has presented recitals and master classes at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival and International Computer Music Conference, SPLICE Festival, International Horn Society Conference, Ohio Music Education Association Conference, Hartt School of Music, University of Georgia, The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, Wright State University, Smith College, Amherst College, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Stevens Point, and Milwaukee. Dr. Michal completed his education at Indiana University, Northwestern University, and The Ohio State University, with additional studies at Bowling Green State University and the IES Institute in Vienna, Austria. Michal, whose principal teachers include Jeff Nelsen, Gail Williams, and Bruce Henniss, is currently Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a faculty member at the Interlochen Summer Arts Academy in Michigan. For these recordings, he plays an Engelbert Schmid double horn.
