Délage - Twist and Doubt (2020)

Remember when we spotlighted a raw talent from Germany named Délage. His real name Till Hormann, he had set the bar surprisingly high with his first record Loverboy Beatface where coldwave and psychedelic lo-fi pop influences suited him like a glove. Two years later, he did it again with his successor named Twist and Doubt.

In the end, we find everything that made Délage so successful. Namely ethereal music and an inhabited voice worthy of John Maus in order to capture our attention. And it works again whether it is on "Alles Brennt" which opens the ball but also on the cold bass "Tender Love and Care" and the aerial "Letzer Halt" smelling the 1980s when Culture Club reigned supreme.

The duet synths / melodic guitars takes effect while the interpretation of Délage will not leave anyone indifferent. The same can be said for "Shopping Mall" and "There Is No God" with deliberately outdated sounds or even for the astonishing retro jazz influence on "Liebe Ist Rot" and the romantic "Everybody's In" which completes the picture that is easily painted. the German musician. Twist and Doubt is enthralling from start to finish despite the slight lack of surprise following the famous slap taken two years earlier. But regardless, Délage is here to stay.
