The new album by singer-songwriter Markus Rohmann is called “Heaven on Earth”, and one could easily imagine it’s a heaven that stretches between “Paris and Texas”. This image does quickly make Rohmann’s beloved slide guitar appear. And the other twelve unusual songs he wrote form a perfect soundtrack for an American mind-movie, as they mix folk, blues, neo-country and desert rock. His resounding voice sings of the fame and misery of those who love, and, tongue in cheek, of everyday drama.
Rohmann brought a young singing partner on board, Samirah Tariq, who refines eight songs on this intense album with a remarkably “old” singing soul. Florian Altenheim (drums) and Dieter Kropp (blues harp) add their parts to the purist arrangements, but just where it’s needed. This is not German pop, but rather the epitome of German-American friendship.
