What can come about when a professional guitarist records an album containing his favorite tunes? A touching and soothing journey through the night that ranges from folky songwriter-tunes to cineastic chamber music - that´s the way the german guitarist and producer Eddie Nuenning describes his recent album release „Songs for quiet Nights“.
The 13 arrangements of vocal songs and nocturne-like instrumentals by the likes of Neil Young and Marit Larsen combine the underlying night-theme with Eddie Nuennings artful guitar style. He did all the arrangements himself and played classical & steelstring as well as octave & baritone guitars, ukulele, electric bass, piano and is featured as a vocalist on 2 tracks.
He was accompanied by lots of old longtime musical friends and he features the two young and exceptional talented vocalists Laetitia Bittner and Amina Wagner on „Songs for quiet Nights“ as their album debut.
The listener of this nocturnal journey through the highs and lows of the human soul can expect constant surprises as far as musical styles, instrumentation and emotional states are concerned. Although the opener „By the Time gets dark“ promises that all will be well by nighttime, songs like „Lullaby for Hamza“ and „Eternal Beauty“ deal with the gloomier side of life in quite a touching way and are interwoven with lyrical instrumentals by Ola Gjeilo. In the end everything turns out to be fine and and the listener reaches dawn in a confident state „When the Morning comes“.
