Christoph Cech shows the clarity, balance and informality with which one can approach the complex subject of extraordinary rhythms and meters. He effortlessly unravels the entanglements in the supposedly elusive cosmos of the “METRIX”.
A declaration of love, an as yet undiscovered element, light showers and a pair of suspenders - a random sequence of terms without any recognizable reference to one another? Not at all - they all represent thematic bases for compositions in the third chapter of Christoph Cech's BigBand epic, METRIX. As absurd as this connection may appear at first glance, Christoph Cech and his Jazz Orchestra Project juggles with uneven time signatures, highly complex meters and motifs that defy any symmetry.
The recording made live in Vienna's Porgy & Bess stands alongside the albums TITAN (2017) and BLUE (2018) as the final part of a large-scale trilogy and not only shows Cech's profound understanding of the “Metrix master plan”, but also completes the complex Image of his compositional work in the field of contemporary big band music.
