Bones and Jones - Bees (2020)

Bones and Jones have moved away from their "humble beginnings" as a 60’s rock inspired group. While maintaining their knack for writing catchy pop tunes, the band have steered themselves towards a more mature sound; a brilliant integration of pop and rock that is uniquely their own.

‘Bees’ begins with the familiar buzzing sounds of the songs namesake swarming in each ear - through which a chugging acoustic guitar rises, shaking itself free of a woozy tape drawl. As soon as the guitar finds itself in tune, a driving country-western groove kicks in and the song takes off with a delightful rhythm. Short and sharp (clocking in under two minutes), the song winds its way frantically through punchy verses and harmony-laden choruses with expert precision - meanwhile Jasper ruminates on the plight of the bees who keep the natural world turning and our toast sweet. The third in a flurry of singles from Surf Coast staples Bones and Jones, ‘Bees’ provides us with one final taste of their charming retro rock n’ roll before the release of their sophomore album.
