This single CD collects pieces taken from the two books of Cantiones Sacrae produced by Byrd in Elizabethan England in 1589 and 1591. Byrd was really swimming against the tide with these Latin motets as there was an understandable lack of demand among professional singers in England after the Latin liturgy was abolished. The Choir was recorded in the chapel of Trinity College, Cambridge in 2001 with Richard Marlow directing.
