On InParallel, the second collaboration between HUW (UK brothers Aaron and Mike Dolton) and American pianist Richard X Bennett, the process is simple, the results are not.Each composition begins in Brooklyn, on Bennett’s piano. Uploaded, complete or fragmented, these ideas become the framework for Aaron to sample, synthesise and arrange. Mike adds rhythm to complete the picture.
InParallel finds beauty and purpose in the spaces that exist between jazz, electronica and rock. It exists to take you someplace else.
HUW and Richard X Bennett have never met. Bennett says, “I send my piano tracks with a certain built-in openness and fragility, knowing that they will return six months later in a barely recognizable form. In many ways, my ego is subsumed and the results refer to me but are not me. It’s like living in a parallel universe.”Aaron says “producing and orchestrating, it’s a passion, and this is instant inspiration. I’ve been trusted with it, and I pass it on to my brother who has his own energy. It’s also a correspondence with the listener, and we each write a chapter.”Mike says “I avoid listening to the tracks until I’m sat at the kit and Aaron hits record. This ensures I play only what I’m feeling in the moment. I’m always surprised at what the two guys offer me up, and when I get to hear the finished product, even more surprised to find out what I’ve played.”
