In the summer of 1968, seven members of Oxford University’s Magdalen College Choir set forth with an extravagant intention: develop a new sophisticated brand of pop music. Robin Barda, Bill Robinson, David Roy, John Saunders, Tony Seddon, Nick Thorne, and John Toll went into the studio in February 1969 to see that vision through, and Unauthorised Version’s Hey Jude is the result of that lofty intention. Their only LP, Jude explores the relationship between classical and chart hits, utilizing intricate harmonic technique, advanced music theory, and creative interpretation of everything from Beatles classics to medieval carols.
