A disc of Tuba Concertos, ‘Music for Blue Days’ contains the premiere recording of Erland von Koch’s Concerto for Tuba and Strings. Performed here by an accomplished Norwegian Tuba player, von Koch composed a number of works, including six symphonies, fifteen solo concertos and film music.
Soloist Eirik Gjerdevik also performs Vaughan Williams’ Tuba Concerto and couples it with Norwegian composer, Torstein Aagaard-Nilsens’ Concert for Tuba and Orchestra which was originally written in 1997 but revised in 2003/4. The final piece on the disc gives it its name: Aagaard-Nilsen’s ‘Music for Blue Days’.
