"The Tempters in Memphis" is ostensibly the third album by The Tempters, yet is in fact a Tempters album in name only. This is actually a solo album by lead singer Hagiwara Ken'ichi, who apparently got it in his head to fly to Memphis and record an album of soul ballads with some of the top session men (and women!) of the day.
Thus, your reaction to this depends largely on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a Tempters album in the classic sense of the word (and if you are, congrats...you're as nuts as I am, and we should perhaps form a support group together), this is DEFINATELY not it. If, however, you're looking for a period, slightly-overwrought soul album, with oodles of horns and lots of EMOTING (if not necessarily in one's native language), then this might be your thing. It looks really cool as an R&B.
