The nucleus of Metropolis were the keyboard player Manfred Opitz and the bass player Michael Westphal, who already played together with Zarathustra. With Michael Sauber (saxophone), Tom Hildebrand (drums / percussion, previously with the band Mythos) and Mickie Duwe (vocals / guitar, Agitation Free / Ash Ra Tempel) the band began rehearsing in the now legendary Wrangel barracks in Kreuzberg . A short time later the band met Ute Kannenberg, also known to many as Tanja Berg, who was a regular guest under this name and at that time in the charts, but wanted to say goodbye to the hit business. Michael Sauber, who would later work as a sound engineer (including Morgenrot), left the company after a short time. (However, they all stood together as a stage on various stages for a long time) With the guitarist Helmut Binzer (Professor Wolff) from Ulm, the program for the planned LP production was then worked out in this line-up.

Agitation Free gave the recommendation for the Munich "Studio 70", in which the band recorded their LP METROPOLIS in December 1973. Not to be forgotten at this point, however, is the participation of an ensemble from the Munich Philharmonic under the direction of Hartmut Westphal, the brother of the band's bassist, who arranged the strings for some of the tracks and conducted them in the studio...
