The third in a series presenting Big Bill Broonzy's complete recorded output in chronological order, this set covers 1951 and 1952 and features the guitarist and singer in mostly solo acoustic mode, including yet another version of his signature "Baby Please Don't Go" as well as a surprisingly sleek take on "Bill Bailey" and turns on various folk chestnuts like "Blue Tail Fly." More reined-in than a lot of Big Bill's output, these tracks have a confident intimacy about them, and remind one a bit of some of Leadbelly's similar folk-blues sets. ~Steve Leggett
