'The Chase' is the debut album from the Leo Richardson quartet. Richardson is widely recognised as one of London's leading jazz tenor saxophonists, best known for his honest, straight-ahead, contemporary hard-bop style. His most significant influences include Horace Silver, Art Blakey, John Coltrane and Joe Henderson.
The Leo Richardson Quartet consists of killer artists who are all standouts in their own right. Rick Simpson, winner of the Yamaha Scholarship Prize for Outstanding Jazz Musicians, resides on piano. Mark Lewandowski, one of the most sought-after young musicians of his generation, drives a hugely vibrant, powerful double bass. And, in keeping with the talent in this line-up, the exceedingly diverse Ed Richardson rounds things off on drums.
Recorded at The Bunker and engineered by Lester Salmins, it is jam packed with the highest hard-bop energy in jazz. With guest appearances from the legendary Alan Skidmore (tenor sax) and the much sought-after trumpet sound of Quentin Collins, 'The Chase' packs a wicked punch.
Personnel: Leo Richardson (tenor saxophone), Rick Simpson (piano), Mark Lewandowski (bass), Ed Richardson (drums) Special Guests: Quentin Collins (trumpet - 2,3,4), Alan Skidmore (tenor saxophone - 8)
