Featuring 60 of the best known anthemic hits from the ’90’s and ’00’s, ’The Best Indie Album In The World…Ever!’ brings together the most incredible and genre challenging music on one collection.
‘Indie’ was a broad title, and whilst recognising that the music wasn’t produced to be mainstream pop, during the ’90’s ‘Brit-Pop’ became a cultural movement with music and fashion colliding as they had in the ’60’s to re-invigorate the charts and radio.
CD1 includes some of the biggest hits of the era kicking off with the soaring genius of ‘A Design For Life’ from Manic Street Preachers alongside The Stereophonics ’The Bartender And The Thief’, Embrace’s ‘All You Good Good People’ and The La’s timeless ’There She Goes’ - all destined to become modern classics. Two of the most influential artists to the ’90’s Indie scene released some of their greatest tracks - including here ’The Changingman’ from Paul Weller, and The Cure with ‘Inbetween Days’. Another influencer Iggy Pop saw his legendary status grow with the inclusion of ‘Lust For Life’ on the soundtrack to the era’s most talked about film ’Trainspotting’. Suede and Placebo turned their glam and punk influences into new art inspired pop, and The Bluetones, The Charlatans, Shed 7, Sleeper, Dodgy, The House Of Love, Ocean Colour Scene, The Wannadies and The Wonderstuff all enjoyed huge chart success, alongside cool pop from Swedish band The Cardigans and the Indie disco favourite ’Sit Down’ from James, and they are all on this first disc.
The second disc celebrates the 2000’s with a number of styles under the ‘Indie’ umbrella. Kasabian’s anthem ‘Club Foot’ leads with tracks representing indie rock, electronica, psychedelia, garage rock revival, and post-punk all here from Death In Vegas, Fratellis, The Vaccines and The Dandy Warhols. Indie Pop evolved further and this collection includes peerless classics from Foster The People with ‘Pumped Up Kicks’, Peter Bjorn & John’s ’The Young Folks’, The Coral’s ‘Dreaming Of You’ and The Zutons’ ‘Valerie’ which was destined to become a hit again when it was covered by Amy Winehouse with Mark Ronson. As in the ’90’s, the scene produced acts who went on to crossover to the mainstream market and enjoy multi-million selling albums - represented here with their key tracks: Keane, The Feeling and Razorlight and there’s still room to include great tracks from The Courteeners, The Ting Tings and Glasvegas as well as some great ’90’s US indie from Hole, Weezer and the iconic Jeff Buckley.
The early ’90’s saw Indie and Dance music come together and produce defining tracks that have become contemporary standards. Disc 3 opens with four of these; Primal Scream’s ‘Loaded’, The Stone Roses’ ‘Fools Gold’, Stereo MCs’ ‘Connected’ and Leftfield with ‘Release The Pressure’.
The Soup Dragons and The Mock Turtles had big tracks from the ‘baggy’ scene and ‘90s indie rock included the amazing vocals of The Cranberries whose classic ‘Zombie’ is included here as is Reef’s ‘Place Your Hands’. Brit-pop and Indie-pop are represented by a host of brilliant singles from Cast, The Boo Radleys, Gene, Longpigs, Smash Mouth and Semisonic alongside the unforgettable ‘Female Of The Species’ by Space and some alternative power-pop from Republica, The Primitives and The Darling Buds. To bring this amazing collection to a close are The Beautiful South’s alt-pop classic ‘Rotterdam (Or Anywhere)’ and the beautiful closer ‘Perfect’ from The Lightning Seeds.
