"The swing music Billy Cardine is tackling on the resophonic guitar on this project is some of my all time favorite music, and in his hands, the music itself takes on an all new meaning to me. It all sounds so natural to the resophonic guitar that one is almost forgiven for not realizing that this is pretty much impossible to pull off so convincingly. Billy is definitely a rising star in the resophonic world!" -- Mike Auldridge
"I couldn’t have picked a better example for them of where the Dobro is now or what the possibilities are with the instrument.” -- Jerry Douglas
"I've always loved tunes from this era of jazz. These songs were popularized in America in the 30's and 40's by people like Benny Goodman and Louis Armstrong. Their recordings inspired musicians in Europe such as Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli and their Hot Club Quintet. The Quintet's infectious rhythm style and brilliant solo'ing then re-inspired musicians in America and around the world.
I started messing around with jazz music for the slide guitar while studying at UVA. The music program there has some great teachers and the musical culture in town is vibrant. We played alot of traditional mountain music in those days, but there were enough pickers interested in jazz to have some good regular jams. Stylistically, there is a really cool palette of harmonies and emotions that this music feels right at home with. Django explored these possibilities perhaps deeper than anyone and he is a main influence on the creation of this album. Another main influence is Mike Auldridge. His playing and teaching are a big part of why I play the dobro today." -- Billy Cardine
