Philip Ekström is a composer based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
He founded the indie band “The Mary Onettes” together with his brother around 2000. They started out in the small town of Jönköping, Sweden.
The band later signed to Labrador Records and achieved success with several critically acclaimed records. Their music has been heard in several feature films and big TV series through the years (Greys Anatomy, Being Human and Like Crazy - winner of grand jury prize at Sundance).
Their self titled debut album was released in 2007.
Philip released an autobiographic project called “Det Vackra Livet” in 2011. He was later in 2012 awarded at the Swedish Manifest gala for ”Lyrics of the Year” for the project.
Philip Ekström has been writing music since an early age. Often close together with his brother Henrik Ekström whom he still collaborates with.
In the recent years of his career he has gone to score more music for motion pictures. Philip has also written music for several award winning commercials.
His most recent work is the full score for Drake Doremus new film “Endings, Beginnings” that is set to be released in April 2020.
