Gustaf Ljunggren & Emil de Waal - Mane (2020) Hi Res

It is very striking about Gustaf Ljunggren and Emil de Waals collaboration. They stand on top of a strong rhythmic structure where they take many directions. They never become template-like or predictable, which is quite powerful when they basically work with melody and rhythm. Nor do they position themselves clearly for any length of time. It is not a record that can clearly be placed at 20 years' distance in 2020. All of this is one of the things that helps maintain my great enthusiasm for the duo. They are themselves and sound like this.

They are up to date with their second album, the first one a couple of years ago. They have otherwise worked together for over 20 years in many different contexts. They are a perfect couple. They are both multi-instrumentalists, just on different instruments. Their organic, curious, serious and playful approach to music is wildly inspiring.

They mix prejudice genres in a way that you don't think about mixing them. At the song Triple mixes the acoustic piano that plays a simple tune, along with discreet up beat whiskers and a deep big drum in dance floor beat. It pretty much hits what the duo does. The simple and uncomplicated meet with two musicians who are in their very own class.
