Since he came on the national scene in 1990, there have been many titles associated with Ben Tankard, from the Quincy Jones of Gospel to the father of GospelJazz.
Ben explains, "Technically, the music is the same. A Christian "C" note sounds the same as a non-Christian note, but as a minister, God releases His Spirit and power through me the music becomes a vehicle-of-salvation to carry God's love, healing and deliverance."
“Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” is a smooth mix of inspired tunes that run the gamut from original Gospel-infused Tankard compositions to covers of R&B favorites such as The Emotions’ 1970s hit “Best of My Love.” Tankard also puts his spin on Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” as well as the title track, which re-interprets the original Cannonball Adderly recording.
“‘Mercy, Mercy, Mercy’ was the first song that I ever played in a band,” says Tankard. “This was the perfect time to record the song because it has an underlying message of surviving through adversity and knowing that God will give you strength to make it through anything. During this time of struggle everyone needs to know that they are not alone, and that the trials we are currently facing have been fought – and won - before.”
Ben Tankard and his wife Jewel are the pastors of The Destiny Center, one of the fastest growing churches in Tennessee.
