Piccolo Concerto - Boccherini: Divertimenti Op. 16, Vol. 1 (2011)

The assessments proclaimed ex cathedra by German-Austrian dominated musicology at the beginning of the last century as to who should be regarded as a composer of minor importance in the 18th century are only gradually being questioned. Boccherini therefore had to wait a long time for his rehabilitation as an artist of equal value to the composers of Viennese classical music with his own, very individual approach. His Divertimenti Op.16 for flute and strings, written in 1770, show him as a composer whose entertainment value never compromises musical substance. The thematic ingenuity of this music seems inexhaustible, and its charm is enchanting in every movement.
