"I've Been Blind" is a soulful, rock, indie-folk album with a bluesy vibe.
It takes on the hard truths and the harder lies of our modern era. I don’t preach. I lyrically portray the personal and political scene as I see it and let listeners make their own decisions.
The album begins with "I've Been Blind," describing a woman standing up to her abusive male partner. The second song, "Stayed with You," is a story about a man who comes to understand the power of love by not running from it.
The fourth song, "Lazarus Rising," is about the brutality of the white male dominated social system we have in the United States. I take the role of the white Deputy to acknowledge the injustices committed by my gender and race. I donate 30% of the revenues of this album to nonprofits that address the inequities and horrors of our white male dominated system.
"Requiem for Dana" is the only autobiographical song on the album. It describes my relationship with Dana, a victim of opioids.
Some truths are so unfathomable they can only be described using magic realism. In "Blood," blood flows up to the sky to the cheers of onlookers; in "Jonny Somebody," the morning, a home, and eternity have something to say; and in "Judas on Jupiter," Judas meets Christ on Jupiter.
