Album "From The Polish Radio Archives. Barbara Hesse-Bukowska - Retrospective ”is the third album in the series created by the Polish Radio Chopin and the Polish Radio Music Agency, presenting valuable archival resources of classical music of the Polish Radio.
From The Polish Radio Archives. Barbara Hesse-Bukowska - Retrospective is a unique publication containing compositions of Fryderyk Chopin, Robert Schumann, Maurice Ravel, Karol Kurpiński and Stanisław Moniuszko performed by the outstanding Polish pianist, one of the greatest popularists of Polish music. Barbara Hesse-Bukowska is most often associated with the music of Fryderyk Chopin due to numerous awards won just for the performance of the music of the native composer.
In 1949, she won the 2nd prize at the 4th International Piano Competition Fryderyk Chopin in Warsaw. After the end of competition, the artist began many years of stage performance, giving concerts regularly almost all over the world. In 1953 she achieved a second serious success, receiving the 5th prize and an additional prize for the best performance of Frederic Chopin's music at the International Piano Competition Marguerite Long and Jacques Thibaud in Paris. The pianist has repeatedly stressed that she is especially proud of the Chopin award, confirming her earlier Warsaw success.
However, this album proves that Hesse-Bukowska often and willingly reached for the works of other artists. The concert and studio materials included on the disc make it an extremely attractive publication for both connoisseurs of archival recordings and music lovers wanting to get to know Barbara Hesse-Bukowska's artistic workshop, as well as the artist's biography described in Polish and English in the 32-page booklet attached to the plate. It is worth mentioning that the author of the graphic design of the whole series is one of the most outstanding graphic designers - European poster designers, prof. Lech Majewski.
So far, the series "From The Polish Radio Archives" have released CDs: "Witold Małcużyński. The Legendary Wawel Castle Recital. Kraków / Cracow, 1959 "and" Mieczysław Horszowski ". More CDs from this unique collection are being prepared.
